The Department of Health Framework for Assessment emphasises the three dimensions of the core assessment. These assessments take an ecological approach in order to fully understand the parents circumstances. Where a child is ‘Looked After’ by the Local Authority a Care Plan and all LAC documentation should be provided by the Social Worker prior to the admission, as this will form the basis for the Placement Plan.

New Dawn will also require a Letter of Instruction from the placing authority, giving clear guidance, as this will form the basis of the assessment to be undertaken by the centre. Other aspects of the care and support including specific arrangements to protect the child will also be included in the Placement Plan.

All outcomes are explained clearly to each parent. The expectations/changes and progress are discussed in a caring sensitive manner, with written agreements so that each parent understands what has been discussed and are party to decisions being made in relation to them and their baby.

Monitoring will be adjusted to suit individual needs of each parent and their baby. A placement contract agreement will be in use following the parents admittance. Supervision and monitoring of the parent’s and baby’s physical, emotional, health will be carried out on a daily basis.
