New Dawn provides long term residential care to families in a safe environment that is conducive to baby development for up to 18 months. New Dawn will strive to ensure that parents are secure and receive physical and emotional support throughout
the pregnancy, birth of their babies and in the infancy of their parenthood. With partnership of the parents, their parents, significant others and referring Local Authority, New Dawn will undertake a transparent and comprehensive assessment of the capabilities of the parents in the caring of their babies.
New Dawn will co-operate fully with the referring authority in all Child Protection issues/concerns, in accordance with the Children Act 1989.
To ensure that every family residing at New Dawn know what they can expect, how they will be treated and how New Dawn operates.
To ensure that families arrive at New Dawn in a planned, sensitive and respectful manner.
To provide residential care to families in a safe and relaxed environment for an initial period of four months. This will be reviewed and extended , depending on the families individual circumstances.
To provide a caring and structured environment of a high standard in order to promote parenting skills, health, education and emotional support to families.
To promote positive interactions and experiences for the families whilst giving them the stability, support and privacy they need throughout their ante-natal and postnatal future.
To assess the parenting capacity of the parents on the following:
- Ensuring the safety of and for the baby.
- Emotional attachment and bonding with the baby.
- The capacity to stimulate the child.
- Guidance and behavioral boundaries.
- The ability to sustain a stable relationship, which will meet the developmental needs of the baby.
To ensure that the parents acquire the basic parenting skills through attending training sessions and practical support.
To ensure that each parent, is supported to develop their day-to-day basic parenting skills.
